Traditional Sliding Sash
- Retains the charm of period homes
- Smooth running technology
- All box sections can be matched identically to a listed property’s original box section
- Range of traditional hardware in black, brass, brushed aluminium or chrome
- Finger-jointed to prevent ‘jams and wobbles’ for smooth functioning openers
The vertical sliding sash is the classic English window, popular for over 300 years. It’s practical, space-saving vertical opening made it perfect for houses that opened directly onto the street but became widely adopted to add a touch of grandeur. Precision crafting and advanced timber treatment result in easy operation with no sticking, wobbling or rattling combined now with a modern twist by having a slimline double glazed unit installed.

Casement Sash
- Stylish and contemporary
- Finger-joints
- Steel hardware in a range of colours and designs
- Manual opening only
Casement is the simpler window with hinged sashes rather than vertical sliding. With less maintenance and easy operation, they may lack the intricate workings of a sliding sash, but they are highly practical and have a very traditional/modern appearance.

What a great experience we had with Oak Hill Joinery. The quality of workmanship of our new bifold doors is unrivalled, the doors are perfect and just what we asked for. They fit perfectly and a lot of care was taken with the finishing touches. We have had a bad time with previous joiners and nearly given up hope until we met Phil and Ryan. Highly professional, lovely guys and do a really great job. Would not hesitate to use them for any future projects, and will be recommending them to all our friends and family. Thank you.
Stunning bespoke understairs wine storage. Pure class master craftsmanship. Also had glass and oak stair bannisters made. Major features of my house renovation. Thank you so much Ryan and team.
Wow! We searched high and low for a company to realise our vision of these internal bifold doors. Ryan and the team at Oak Hill were so attentive and paid attention to every single detail. We were blown away by the finished product. Could not recommend this company enough. Thank you so much Oak Hill! ❤️
Trying to bring our home into the 21st century we started with the staircase. Oak Hill Joinery did a fantastic job from start to finish. They deliver quality workmanship. We can highly recommend Phil and Ryan; they are first class. We've had so many positive comments on our oak and glass staircase.
Ryan and the team at Oak Hill Joinery did a fantastic job on new front and back doors for us. Top class workmanship and design, couldn't be happier with the result or the experience.
Excellent job! I can't recommend Oak Hill highly enough. They were extremely professional and did a great job making and installing a large room divider consisting of six bifold doors and a set of glazed internal doors. From start to finish Ryan was a pleasure to deal with, and the quality of the work he and his team did for us will be enjoyed for many years to come.
I am amazed with Oak Hill Joinery and the project they have undertaken for our house! Ryan understood from day one exactly what we wanted, and the results are above and beyond our expectations! The Oak Hill Joinery team brought into vision everything we’ve asked for and every little detail! I am sure our family and friends will be calling upon your services again! Thank you guys! 5 stars are not enough for your quality and customer service! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We wanted to replace our 70's staircase in our period cottage and were referred to Oak Hill by a friend. From first contact to delivery and fitting, we have experienced the most professional service with a personal touch. Ryan and his team have also given us so much advice, and as a result, we placed further work for door thresholds and wardrobe doors, all of which have been first class. Attention to detail has been outstanding, especially considering the challenges presented by our older property. We have no hesitation in providing this review and thoroughly recommend Oak Hill for your design and joinery needs. Thank you, Ryan, Phil, and the team for your great work.
Ryan and Phil have created and installed our bespoke staircase. We love it. Their knowledge, attention to detail, and willingness to create exactly what we imagined and more has put the finishing touch to our new home. They are respectful, prompt, and reliable. Thank you 😊
Ryan and the team designed and fitted a new oak and glass staircase for us. They were a pleasure to deal with throughout the whole process and the finished product looks amazing. I’d highly recommend Oak Hill for their quality and attention to detail!
Just had our amazing gates delivered and fitted today. Excellent quality, very, very sturdy gates expanding 16 feet. Not only are we so thrilled with our quality purchase, we were extremely pleased with the fitters today, who knew exactly what they were doing, leaving our driveway clean and tidy. We would highly recommend Oak Hill Joinery. Thank you.
I have used Oak Hill on a couple of occasions and I can only praise their worth ethic, craftsmanship, and customer focus. Both my lounge and sitting room look amazing. Ryan listens and understands customers and if there are any problems, he deals with them professionally. I would recommend Oak Hill to anyone wanting a bespoke piece that looks amazing.
Ryan and colleagues have done a fantastic job modernising our staircase. They took time to explain all the options, nothing was too much trouble. High quality. A pleasure to work with. Would definitely recommend Oak Hill Joinery!
Oak Hill Joinery manufactured a bespoke oak gallery/porch extension for our house which was designed for us and assembled by our builder. Phil and Ryan visited to discuss the project and to take measurements, and the joinery was delivered as planned and completed to a high standard. After initial delivery, we opted for additional internal joinery which was ordered, manufactured, and delivered within one week. This company takes pride in its work, and we found them to be both flexible and fair. We are very pleased with the results.
Thank you so much Oak Hill Joinery for our beautiful front door, which was fitted in May 22. The whole process was completely seamless, despite what we thought would be a tricky fit due to the 1930s arch we were having made! The finished result is just what we had hoped for and we know it will last for a long time to come. All communications with Ryan were very professional and friendly. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Oak Hill Joinery to anyone. Thank you again!
Ryan understood the brief for my new oak gates from the outset. I wanted quality, and he delivered a first-class job. There was a small issue with fitting which was sorted as soon as it became apparent. I would highly recommend Oak Hill Joinery to anyone.
FAQs
Is the type of glass important for the windows?
We supply all of our windows with Pilkington K glass with all cavities filled with argon gas. The “K” effect essentially reflects the heat from the internal pane back into your property to maximise the effect of your home's heating.
Stain or paint finishing
We would never claim timber is maintenance-free, but if you love the look, we offer impressive stain finishes to highlight the beauty of the natural grain. Alternatively, we offer a great range of paint finishes on all of our ranges of timber, providing a more contemporary finish.
Selecting your timber choice
We offer sustainably sourced softwood (European Redwood) and hardwood (African Sapele), both of which are accredited by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC). Our timber is all manufactured from ONE solid section of timber, as opposed to many companies providing a much cheaper pre-manufactured process of laminating timbers together. This really does have an impact on the visual qualities once stains or paints are applied.
Colours of stains/paints
We can offer a wide range of colours or stains. Our most preferred method is actually the client deciding their colour from any desired colour swatch, which we can research the RAL code and match the colour exactly through our spray techniques.
Do you provide FENSA certification?
We would like to take this opportunity to explain that due to manufacturing bespoke timber windows usually to replicate existing, we are not FENSA registered and cannot provide a certificate for replacement windows.
What if my property is in a conservation area?
If your property is in a conservation area, windows would be approved when applying for planning permission regardless of design/spec, so this doesn’t cause any issues. Only if replacing windows, which would need to comply with modern building regulations 2002, would this be an issue going forward.
Having said this, we provide detailed sectional drawings of the windows/sashes, which have been sent to Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire councils and approved in grade 2 listed buildings and properties in conservation areas.
What is a Bespoke Wooden Window?
A bespoke wooden window is a well-crafted, custom-designed window that looks better than standard, mass-produced alternatives. Unlike off-the-shelf options, these windows are precisely tailored to match the specific architectural requirements and preferences of an individual property.
Crafted by skilled joiners with extensive woodworking expertise, bespoke wooden windows are created from carefully selected timber such as oak, cedar or hardwood. Each window is individually measured, designed and constructed to ensure perfect fit, performance and suit a building's character.
The bespoke process involves consultation and design. Homeowners collaborate closely with our craftsmen to determine precise specifications including window style, timber selection, glazing options and architectural compatibility. This approach ensures a window that meets both functional and aesthetic requirements.
Wooden windows offer significant advantages over alternative materials. They provide superior thermal efficiency, natural insulation and remarkable durability. The properties of timber create excellent temperature regulation and sound insulation, while delivering a warm, authentic look that modern materials cannot replicate.
Sustainability is a crucial consideration, with responsibly sourced timber offering an environmentally conscious window solution. Professional manufacturers such as Oakhill Joinery combine traditional woodworking techniques with modern engineering, ensuring each bespoke window represents a high-quality, long-lasting investment in a property's comfort and appearance.
Are timber windows worth the extra cost compared to uPVC?
Timber windows represent an investment for homeowners seeking quality, durability and visual appeal. While initially more expensive than uPVC alternatives, wooden windows offer exceptional long-term value. They provide better thermal efficiency, natural insulation and can significantly enhance a property's character and market value.
When properly maintained, timber windows can last decades, outperforming synthetic materials. They can be easily repaired, repainted and restored, unlike plastic windows which often require complete replacement. Their natural ability to regulate temperature and reduce external noise makes them an environmentally friendly and practical choice.
For heritage properties and those seeking authentic architectural character, timber windows remain unmatched.
